IOTA contest 2018 at Greenfield
We took part in the IOTA 2018 contest from Greenfield (EU005). We made 488 contacts. We had two stations supplied by Terry (G4UEM), the run station was an Elecraft K3 with a P3 panadapter and an Acom 1000 PA. The multiplier station was an Elecraft K3 with a KAT500 automatic ATU and a KPA500 PA. To protect the receivers Don (G4LOO) supplied switched filters and tuned stubs. Ian (G1JCC) supplied two PCs running N1MM logging software. The antennas were two beams, 40m square four and wire dipoles for 80m and 20m.
Conditions were poor but we had two guest CW operators (Rob and Andy) who were pleased to add to our total.
The weather in the weeks before the contest had been very hot and dry but fortunately the heatwave broke on the Friday before the contest and temperatures were much more comfortable for operating.
We also had a visit from Bryan Bourne who is very poorly. His daughters drove him over and it was very good to see him. He was missed as part of the group because he has been our chef for many years. Ian did a grand job of cooking and even tried to emulate Bryan’s cooking with Primus stoves by setting the gas BBQ alight (see photos)
