For the may 2016 432MHz and up contest we went to Therfield (IO92XA), we had 5 stations:
- 70cms running 400W from an Elecraft K3 with a DB6NT transverter feeding a Beko HLV 550 PA. We took an SSB masthead preamplifier but that died before the contest started because the sequencer did not work as expected. The antennas were a pair of 28 element M2s purchased at great expense for contesting by Terry (G4UEM). We made 133 QSOs with the best DX being DL0GTH at JO50JP (768Km).
- 23cm running 300W from an IC910 feeding two 150W amplifiers from W6PQL (unfortunately that lasted all day Saturday but failed to perform on Sunday so the backup 4 x Mitsubish brick amplifier was used). There was a receive preamplifier. The antennas were 2 x 55 element Tonnas. We made 36 QSOs with the best DX being DL0GTH at JO50JP (768Km).
- 13cm running 25W from an FT817 feeding a Down East transverter and Qualcomp PA. There was a Down East receive preamplifier. The antenna was a 45 element Wimo. We made 11 QSOs with the best DX being PI4Z at JO11WM (276Km).
- 9cm running 40W from an FT817 feeding a DB6NT transverter and 40W PA. There was a receive preamplifier. The antenna was a 45 element loop Yagi. We made only 1 QSO with G4BEL at JO02BI (38Km). Progress was hampered by the problems with the 3cm station.
- 3cm running 10W from an FT817 feeding a DB6NT transverter with a 10W PA. There was a receive preamplifier. The antenna was a 50cm dish. The transverter LO failed to lock on Saturday and Don (G4LOO) spent most of Saturday persuading it to work and unfortunately missed any contacts in the Trophy contest. We made 7 QSOs with the best DX being G4KUX at IO94BP (317Km).
The weather was fantastic but unfortunately that did not bring good radio conditions. We were joined by Phil (M0NVS) and James (M0JCQ) on Sunday, their help was much appreciated. We arrived on site on Friday and took our time to setup the stations but taking them down after a contest is a struggle.
